Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!
From a daily driver setting, here's where I'm at:
I don't use a Samsung as they don't update their devices software wise as their skin is so heavy. I don't use a HTC because they don't update their devices software wise because they lack the manpower to do so. I don't use Andy's phone because the radios don't run the way I like for calls to justify the no headphone jack and so-so camera app.
I don't use a Sony because they're still too stubborn with the camera apps. I'll never use a OnePlus again because I don't like how they treat their customers. I don't use a Xiaomi because in the devices they have with proper radio support, the camera isn't as strong as it should be. I don't use an LG as they don't update their devices as much as they should. I won't use a Huawei because their video camera capabilities are garbage and they're arrogant in addressing customer concerns while chasing Apple and Samsung.
I don't use a Moto because Lenovo is clueless and for a brand running AOSP, they don't update their devices. ZTE doesn't have anything compelling I'd look at. I don't use Apple because I have to stomach enough fruit for work and their platform has enough issues as is.
I'm concerned about HMD because of them being filled with old Nokia employees and that they'll use the old Nokia strategy of a phone at every price point (seems like they're doing this already). I'm concerned for Blackberry because of pricing. I'm concerned about Google as they're still after Apple users and I may need to start referring to them with the iPixel line.
So with all these gripes, am I on a flip phone? Nope. I use the Pixel 2 as outside of the no headphone jack (major), no manual mode (semi major) and smaller battery (semi major), it's got the best combination of what I can use and stomach right now. Especially since Google has gone the 3 & 3 (3 years of major OS updates and patches).
While there are other devices I own and like using as individual devices (HTC 10, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2) and there is still stuff I'd try (Nokia 8, V35, Asus ROG, Key 2), but we've got what we've got. Lots of OEMs make hardware I like, but the combination of hadware, company approach and software support I want doesn't exist right now.
I think my beef will always lie equally between OEMs and my fellow consumers. Rant over.
