WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So I spent some quite hands on time with the V40 and Pixel 3.

Summary version:

1) Google has addressed the in-hand feel for me. I like the feel of the Pixel 3 XL. Still prefer the Pixel 3.

2) The notch isn't as bad to me as YouTubers portraying to be. Notches never bothered me.

3) I prefer the in hand feel of the 3XL to the V40.

4) Pixel 3 is about 90% smaller than the Pixel 2 with a bigger screen. Not bad.

5) I need to beat the **** out of someone at LG. I'm disappointed as F in the V40. There is no way this thing is worth over $900.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So I like the V40. I do. If LG had cleaned up certain things, it would be close to great. And a daily driver for me.

Outside of microSD and 3.5mm, the Pixel 3 XL is better to me. I'm super impressed with Google this year as the in hand feel for all models is the same. I'd avoid the black color, as it misses the mark visually and makes the design look plain. The pink and white makes the phone look more tolerable. I think they took the in hand feel of the white Pixel 2 from last year, refined it and applied it to the Pixel 3.

Why I disliked the Pixel 2 XL was that it felt too plasticky and unbalanced in hand. The narrower take of the 3XL, coupled with the new finish had it sit better in hand. The V40 looked like a bigger V30 and felt literally like a bigger G7. The notch while not as bad on the V40, just gives the phone a "I've seen this design before" feel.

This is all subjective. I have big hands and have used lots of phones, so I tell what I like in hand right away. The Pixel 2 and was like "this is OK, but I'd use a case". Pixel 2 XL was like "miss me with that ****, case or no case". V35 was like "this works, but I'd still use a case". G7/Sony Xperia XZ2, "I could grow to use this". Pixel 3, "this works, but I'd still use a case." Pixel 3 XL, "I could use this, case needed".

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So I've decided that if I get an LG, it's gonna be a V35, then G7. I do like the screens on the V35, V40 and G7, as their screen game is really nice this year. LG went the narrower route for the V40 and it just didn't click for me. Triple shot is nice but a but slower than it would be useful. I know the main cam is better on the V40 over the V35/G7, but not $900+ better.

I need to just shake my head at LG. Now that Huawei went with a wide angle, I wonder what LG has to offer now. I wish they would do an variable wide angle with OIS. So you take the main camera and give us two or three wide angle settings - from super fish eye to a medium crop standard to a smaller crop than gives more in the shot than the traditional main camera.

The problem is LG isn't gonna tweak the software to keep up the right way. I think that's what's frustrating about the V40. It needed more refinement and it looks like another "you really gotta tink for it to work" LG.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I think very few people want bigger displays to make their phones wider; most people find that harder to hold. But at least big hands means you don't have trouble with these phones getting so huge nowadays!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So, I'm passing on the Pixel 3. It's back to the list of the Mate 10 Pro, V35, XZ2. None of these new phones are worth the hassle.

I'll keep my Pixel 2, thanks. It may go to the bench, but it's not going anywhere. Wish I could have gotten a 128GB model though.

If you can wait till November, I'd also suggest waiting to get a hands-on with the RED Hydrogen One, if it's something that may interest you. I've been a vocal proponent of it for anybody who's seen me around, but that's because I've been enjoying it. At least they use that dual camera setup for something interesting - 3D to 4V images. Plus it takes good 2D.

I'll pass. Not spending that kind of money on something that does nothing for my battery life and audio concerns as far as a daily driver goes.

It looks cool, but I'll leave that to other enthusiasts such as yourself...

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

You're free to do what you wish, but it actually excels in those two areas! It has a 4,500mAh battery, stereo "deep cavity" speakers which sound pretty great, a headphone jack, and its own A3D algorithm to convert sound to 3d/surround on the fly via the speakers or headphones. Sounds amazing via headphones.

But yeah, not trying to sell you on it or anything. Just know that people aren't talking about it so I wanted to shed some light.

Screenshot of battery life when I barely used it one weekend (about 3 hours screen on time). I generally get 2 days:

Whoa, I didn't see this coming but I enjoyed reading your viewpoints on the phones.

It's not worth me going the 99 route to troll and sell.

I think for me it'll be a V35. I would have gone the Mate 10 Pro route, or even the XZ2 route, but I want my in ear 3.5mm jack, even if it means the camera isn't as noob proof as the Pixel.

It's an interesting concept, for sure...it's just not for me. Especially since the price is a four digit number.

The most expensive phone I've bought since 2001 was the HTC Kaiser at $900. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but...Never again.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So I learned that not everything is black and white when it comes to feelings and choices together and separate.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Lol I hear you on the price. Only reason I pulled the trigger when it went up for pre-order last year was because I was absolutely bored of phones. After Windows Phone was gone, it was just a series of one night stands. Then I was in a relationship with the Note 5 for 3 years, but we both knew the passion was gone long before it ended. The Essential Phone was a refreshing change for a short while; I appreciate her form and build, and she always stayed current.

But I really just couldn't wait till Hydrogen was ready. I waited for her for over a year before she came to me.

I feel like a pitcher that has throws a ton for offspeed stuff that doesn't have control of his offspeed stuff but is being brought in to get outs from guys who crush offspeed pictures (not pitchers).

Friday, eh?
