WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

No no no no no. This guy is nothing like W other than being a Republican. Bush 43 was as close to a complete ***** as you can get and he caused me serious trouble at home when I was one of the first to denounce the war in Iraq. I saw right through that sham. But he showed me he was a man when that Iraqi hurled his shoes at him and W just stood there at the podium and ducked left and right. 45 would’ve dove under the podium and screamed like a bi*ch. Besides, if my girl Michelle O. can like him, so can I.
This dude isn't a Republican, he just ran on the Republican ticket and they've decided not to get rid of him.

I see no redeeming features of either them.

I don't care who likes 43 or not. There's nothing about him that's likeable. He's still an evil sob. I'll never forget that.

I know that basically describes 98% of the GOP as well.

I see you're sounding a bit like Pelosi right now (huge sarcasm alert)...

So yeah, I finally own a 9 Pureview.

Initial impressions:
- there are two things I really dislike, the gestures and the FPS. Whomever thought that FPS was ready for launch should have been either shot or left for a senior cabinet position in the current US administration after sneaking it past the lead engineers somehow. I'll see if Android 10 makes a difference, but I think I'll just get a tempered glass and go circa 2014 with an old school unlock.
- the gestures I guess I'll deal with, as much as I'm not a fan.
- in-hand feel is the same as I remember in store, even better.
- screen is really, really good.
- the phone is as a slippery as a recently impeached US politician giving a speech. Case mandatory.
- camera is slow, but we will see if Android 10 will help (I doubt it).

Overall, I'm pleased with it...and I haven't put the SIM in. I wish my friend's dad could use one. As a semi pro photographer, I think he'd embrace the challenge of these cameras and get some fine results from it.

Congrats

So what’s so unnerving about the FPS? Location or function?

So, here's what I feel about this phone: a missed opportunity.

I was totally on board with the idea behind the cameras. I wish what they did was different focal lengths and give the versatility where you can shoot in varied modes. If they were going to use 5 lens, I would have wanted more control about which lens to use. I don't think one photo stacked with information is enough. Plus, Light looked like they didn't support the camera software wise as best as they could have.

I think they nailed much of this phone. But where they missed, they missed big time. That was the problem. They used the wrong chip. The 845 was no good for handling more than two cameras at once. I think either the 855 or really the 865, would have been the better choice. The battery was too small. The onboard storage size was comical. And the fingerprint scanner was laughable.

I would have loved if they had gone with a dual camera set up with varied aperture on both (like the S9, but better). One color one black and white. So it let's you shoot ultra wide, standard and 2x zoom. There are things in the ashes of this phone that are usable, so we will see how HMD moves going forward.

Android 10 made the FPS a bit better and the camera processing speed slower. What a conundrum. Still, I'm happy to own one. It's these set of missteps that will not have me use it as a daily driver.

Congratulations! I hope you'll have fun with it even if it won't be your daily driver.

Where is the FPS located?

So, dark mode in "stock" Android sucks.

I know there are a ton of LCD screens out there. I wish there was a true black mode (Textra, Nine and many others have this). Dark mode is an inconsistent mess. On the 9 Pureview I get a Grey + true black mix, where some parts are Grey and some are true black. It's not a clean UI look on an OLED panel. As an owner of a G7, outside of the light bleed, the blacks on that screen are stupidly sharp - in shouting distance of an OLED panel. So when you use that "dark mode", it just looks more Grey, which while sharp isn't as appealing. Nothing is wrong with it though.

In comparison, I just updated my work 6S to iOS 13. The dark mode there is more akin to a true black. While the blacks on that phone doesn't look as sharp as the G7, that dark mode which is more true black is quite usable and consistent. I just wish that Google had thought about that better. I still like the ICS Grey mode, but the screens these days (both OLED and LCD) are more than capable of handling a true black theme.

Congrats

Both.

It is slower than watching pain dry to scan your print on set up.

It is just a bit more finicky when moving your finger around to scan the print during the initial set up than finding some good positions to have sex with an uber vain hot model who spends most of the time during the sex complaining about how you're sweating out her new hairdo and makeup.

The sensor window where you can rest your fingerprint on is the smallest I've seen on a UDFPS. It is also positioned between 40-45% the way up on the screen.

The animations are the slowest I have seen.

You have to tap the power button before you can scan your print. My Mate and Mi 9 will unlock through an unlit screen.

Yeah, this feels like a US government issued FPS HMD decided to use here.

It's an in-screen/under display FPS. It's worse than the gen 1 capacitive scanners because of the combo of things I described. It feels like they went cheap or grabbed the first gen 1 slow poke scanners.

Now I have three in house. The Mi 9 is so close to the V40. The Mate 20 Pro has a good one for gen two, but if feel the Mi 9 is a hair faster. The 9 Pureview has one that will grow back hair on a bald head so you can rip it out again.

As much as I bash it, it does WORK when everything lines up. But I'd rather use an old school log in method.

Have you compared it to the FPS on your girlfriend's Samsung?
Oh, there's no comparison. The S10 is better. Even the S10 at launch was miles ahead of this thing at launch. I think the updates have it on par with the S10 at launch, which wasn't that good. It was usable, which this is.

Yikes! That's bad. I had around 85% success rate with the S10 FPS before the update. Now it works almost every time with any of the 4 fingerprints I added, even with a screen protector.

I hope Nokia improves the FPS and makes it as good as Samsung did.

I had zero issues with the FPS on the V20.

See, I think HMD were onto something with the Nokia 8, as flawed as it was. Offer something clean and fast, with one unique selling point in the upper mid range/budget flagship market and sell the hell out of it, like Oneplus does. But they remembered they were Finns and dredged up the bad parts of old Nokia playbook.

I would have loved this phone at the 6" size with expandable storage, 3500-3700mah, Android One, two very good cameras, Qi and IP rating. All that for $600. They would have worked because especially in USA, Oneplus hadn't fully gotten hold yet. Remember Nokia didn't have as much brand pull here as others, especially LG. But they had way more than Oneplus, for example. Now, I don't know if they can pull it off. If Oneplus lands on another carrier, it'll be harder for HMD in the US.

HMD says that's what they're doing this year. Good luck.

You should have used the Note 5's. I got so used to the GF cursing at having to enter her password with how finicky that one was. And it was better than the S6 models.
