Wow! Same issue with brand new surface? That means there really is a problem.
I think that if you reset it from a usb key, it shouldn t include the updates. Not sure thought

lol why USB key?
Don't we have an option to factory reset?

Hi everyone,
This morning (in Europe) I installed the 8.1 update 1, with some minor updates too. I didn't get the issue, but I only used my surface for about 45 min.
Do anyone who have installed the official update (from yesterday) have experienced the issue again?

Had this issue second time today (after the April update). Not good...

I had this problem when I tried to restore using my original recovery that came with my surface 2 the other week. I also had major battery drain issues. I went back to using Windows 8.1 RT RTM, I haven't had this issue again, and my battery is much better. This is a software problem for sure...bad update or a bug. If anyone that is having this issue wants to see if it fixes it for them as well, my how to guide is here.
