I post this as information only, because the simple answer is it's buggy, but here goes. Powered up tonight and found:
- Started in tablet mode, even though I had the Touch Cover in use.
- Started up with the Asus T100 theme* (Eyebrows raised? Anyone?).
- None of the programmes I left running, when I put it to sleep, were still running.
The last one is simplest. It turns out that if you leave it charging/sleeping, it will happily update itself. Fair enough, if a little OTT (after all, even iPad gives you a choice). I managed to find the update history, which is useful. The mother load of updates seems to have happened overnight. I guess that explains everything else.
* Ah yes, the Asus T100 theme. When I first powered up this device and signed in, Windows 8.1 kindly offered to let me carry on using this theme. I declined and Windows 8.1 used it regardless! I'll have to look at making it go away, permanently.
