The "build it they will come" mindset comes from their success in enterprise, just look at Azure and all the 365 stuff. They weren't advertised and businesses flocked to them.

Microsoft has always treated the world outside of the U.S. as an afterthought for their consumer offerings, that dates back since forever; as an italian Zune and later Windows Phone user, I would know: one bever reached Europe and the other never saw total feature parity with the U.S. (like the integrated bar&restourants thing in the bing quick access)..

That's one way to put it. To what even accounts Microsoft's marketing effort for EMEA? Having stores like Mediaworld dedicate one tiny shelf to XBox?
