My wife said her hotmail stopped working about a week ago. I looked at it and it was giving an error 80070057. I tried everything and finally wiped the phone and tried to set up again. Still getting the same error. If I use another hotmail account it will sync and strangly enough allow me to add the offending hotmail account as a second account and it will sync.

Here's what I've found out from a whole day of screwing around with this thing.

Offending hotmail account has a server setting of eas.outlook.com when I try to use it as the Microsoft account it does not sync the email.

If I add my hotmail account which users a different server it will add and (here's what I think is the problem), when I add her hotmail account as a second account it uses the same server (eas.outlook.com) but shows a second line under the server that says it requires ssl and has a check box. i DO NOT see that when trying to set it up as the primary microsoft account.

I really need to get this working as it used to be with her account as the primary Microsoft Account so that things will sync correctly.

What happened here? Thanks for your help.

I'm having the same issue exactly since the same the same date as You did on Lumia 930 running 8.10.14226.359. I'm frustrated... Tried many "solutions" but nothing worked. I don't know if an upgrade to Windows 10 will help because I own also a second device (Lumia 730) running Windows 10.0.14393.5 through Insiders program and it also doesn't sync the Contacts in Peoples Hub even though it seems that it does (Doesn't display: Not Synced). And also in 730 Contacts are beginning to getting messed up...!!!! Multiplying a single Contact into more than a 100!!!! CLONES!!!!! The messed up account is secondary in 930 (Which doesn't sync) but PRIMARY to 730 (Which seems to be synced but it's not!). And I also don't know if this has anything to do with this issue. I don't what to do to avoid further damage in my Contacts as they are messing up EVEN MORE as days are passing... CREATING EVEN MORE CLONES!!!!! AND SETTING UP PICTURES FROM ONE CONTACT TO ANOTHER!!!! PLEASE SOMEONE... IF ANYONE CAN HELP LET US NOW!!!! P.S: I had seen this issue since 10.0.10586.494 Original OTA installed in 730!!!! ORIGINAL OTA UPDATE AND CREATED THIS MESS!!! I had seen this complains when this update was in insider program... And when came to the 730 through original ota I said... Ok, maybe they fixed it. But apparently THEY DON'T!!!!. RESPECT YOUR CUSTOMERS MICROSOFT!!! MARKET SHARE IS CRUMBLING... . Please if anyone can help let Us know!!! Thank U in Advance.

Don't you think adding multiple accounts is causing this mess? Also if you really want to start fresh go to Outlook Contacts website and click merge duplicate contacts. That should clean up your contacts list. I have been using Windows Phone/Mobile from the past ~4.5 and I have never ever come across an issue with Hotmail/Outlook contacts. Its one of the cleanest implementations till date when compared to Google or Apple's.
