What and where is media and files from phone memory ?

While using the storage check app I get these results


Now I am not sure as to what is media and files are in my phone memory , and how am I suppose to free that space . My all pictures , songs and videos are in SD card . Nothing in phone memory when I see the folders after connecting via USB
Any help is most welcome.

When you swipe left to details what does it show under Photos, Music, Video, ? 1,7GB of files ?
And if you open -settings > phone storage> phone and then tap it, what does it show for pictures, music+videos, does it equal 1.7GB ?

The media and files isn't music, video or pictures.
It's some other type of files, I know that doesn't help, maybe maps ? office ?

In Storage Check > details, how about; maps, office documents, ringtones, Email+contacts, 1.7GB worth ?

I think it's Maps (mostly) then any media files from/in apps, like whatsapp

how do i clear it then ? i have offline maps 120 mb thats it

Welcome to Windows Phone memory (mis)management. I get this about every two weeks, and the only things I have installed are Bing apps like News and Weather. Only way to get rid of it I have found is to factory reset the phone. Luckily the important stuff is saved to Skydrive.

what will happen to apps that i managed to download when they were free , but now arent free ?

You'll still be able to download them for free if you once downloaded them. Just head to the app in the store you wanted to download (in phone, not PC), tap "buy". You won't be charged but would be able to download them because MS keeps a history of all the apps you once downloaded and can be found here
