I don't think gender has anything to do with what kinds of pets people like.

My first post here would be of my dogs Milo (foreground) and Penny (background). Taken with my spankin new Lumia 928 while tinkering with ProShot and Fotor, horrible lighting and no flash so it's pretty noisy and I kicked up the contrast a bunch. Blue glow is from the TV.
