What is de junk folder for in the Windows 10 mail app?

Sometimes the Windows 10 mail app moves messages to the junk folder. And sometimes I move a message to the junk folder myself. But what does the app do with those messages?

Are these removed automatically after a while? Does the app learn from it so I won't receive mails from an sender that has messages in de junk folder?

Junk folder in the Mail app is what some email clients call spam. If you go to the junk email and right click to can says it's not junk. You can also select to says any email from this sender isnt junk and the future emails will come through the in box. That is if it works right.
