What is the Core M SP4 like?

I own a SP3 (I5 model) which is pretty beat up. Its biggest issue is the now infamous yellow band on the left of the display (driving me nuts!).

I'm looking to replace it but I can't afford the higher end SP4 models. I'm looking pretty hard at the Core M version. There isn't a lot of good info around about this model.

So, I'm sure there's members here who have it. What's it like?

What's battery life like? Performance?

Thanks in advance

Hi

I have had the Surface Pro 4 (m3, 4GB Ram, 128GB SSD) for just over 2 months now.

Battery life and performance will vary by user of course, depending on what they do. I only use my SP4 really for normal day-to-day web browsing and emails, the odd Word document and Spreadsheet, some catch up TV, and some social media apps.

On a typical weekday, I will probably use it for 1 to 2 hours. I find from full charge that I have to recharge it about 5 days later; so if I average my usage as being 1.5 hours per day, the battery life I get is roughly 7.5 hours.

On the performance side I have no issues what-so-ever for my usage. To me, there is no noticeable slow down. I often have multiple tabs open in the browser, with a couple of apps open and a Word document at the same time also. Switching between each app is instantaneous.

I did previously use a cheap laptop (Celeron N2840 processor, 2GB Ram and 32GB hard drive). Even after the Anniversary Update and with the adblock extension in Edge, I found Edge to be unusable on that laptop. However, with the SP4 (on the Anniversary Update) the only browser I have installed is Edge; it works brilliantly for me - I presume the better specs of the SP4 have a lot to do with that. There is of course the occasional "Not Responding" message, but I've had that on all browsers over the years.

You should note that I do no gaming whatsoever on the SP4, so I'm not sure how heavy graphical games for example may affect performance or battery life.

I hope that helps a bit

Kind regards
Paul

I just bought one at Best Buy as it's on sale for $599 and includes a keyboard. So far it's been very snappy and no noticeable lag, although I really haven't done anything that intensive. I am extremely happy with it, especially the price.

It's been great performance wise. The sixth gen Core m3 is far better than earlier Core M series processors and they actually run really good. You're getting really efficient, really solid performance and there's no fan. I've had no issues with my brand new beaut.

I am also interested in other people's opinion, mostly about battery life
