This is obviously a subjective question that the OP wanted an answer to that has the same thought process as he has. It's apparent by when he gets his answer--he wants the thread to be closed. Everyone will have an opinion based on what the identity of WP is to them. These answers will surely vary among each person.
For me, it's about not having to walk around with another Android device or iPhone... Don't get it twisted--in my eyes there's nothing wrong with having either or. I just choose not to use any of those two as my daily driver. To have a phone that people stop me and ask about is pretty sweet. It's not often, but when they do, I can tell them my experiences with WP and the features it brings to the table.
So to me, that's its identity--having another fresh choice besides Android and iPhone with a great UI, good functionality, and growing ecosystem.
