What means ":-(" ?

I have a HTC 8X device.
I made the phone updates the first day that I received, one week ago.
At the end of the update, it restarted and since it displays ":-(".
What does that mean?

I have not found how to do it with an HTC mobile.

No, a device bricking when updating it does not void the warranty. You should be able to get it replaced or repaired with warranty.
