What will happen to my surface once windows 10 stop the technical preview

I installed windows 10 on my surface pro but what will happen in-between the ending of the technical preview and the coming out of windows 10. I can not go back and reinstall 8.1 I don't believe and if I can, how so? I don't want to be left without a tablet for months on end while waiting on win 10 to roll out..

any ideas?

You wont have to do anything, keep it updated til consumer edition rolls out, its a free upgrade the first year so should be no problems windows 8 was different because at the end u had to buy it

You can use the preview until Windows 10 is ready, then It will be updated to automatically.

Maybe it's good to know that you can also revert back to windows 8.1 on your surface pro. I am currently also testing windows 10 on my surface pro first gen. The technical preview already provides a revert to 8.1 at the startup of the OS. Before installing windows 10, the microsoft website also shows and tells you how you can make a recovery flash drive for windows 8.1 for your surface pro device. If you did that before installing and now know that the preview provides a revert option, you can go two ways: forward to an official windows 10 in due time or back to windows 8.1 which is still a very good and powerful operating system for the surface pro.

If you can upgrade directly from the Tech Preview to the rtm, cant you just install the TP on an old laptop and then upgrade without having ever purchased a copy of 7/8/8.1 for that machine? Unless you're required to have 7/8/8.1 to install TP (I don't remember just blasted through the setup). Licensing is becoming so convoluted.

We must have Win 7/8/8.1 installed on the computer, to upgrade to Windows 10.

For the OP : Nothing to worry. Your Surface will be updated to the completed version Windows 10.
