When did you find out about Windows Phone and how?

Oddly enough, I found out about it while reading Reader's Digest, of all things. I read about it in an article detailing the "Burning Platforms" announcement.

Then, I learnt of the Lumia 800, and the rest is history.

My Blackberry Curve was having all sorts of problems so I decided it was time for a new phone.

After looking at all the options available for my budget, I liked the look of Windows Phone. Although very cheap it looked very robust and on a par with iPhone in terms of what it was aiming for. I was sold and got a Lumia 710. I'm now on a 1020.

I honestly don't quite remember lol, I think it was right after 7,5 was released and I was looking for a phone on the internet. I have no idea why I chose the wp but I did, so first I got the L800. I freaking loved the design :).

Then I got the L920 when it launched here in Holland a couple months later than the rest of Europe, I fell in love with the new start screen and it made me realize how weird and unnecessary the gutter actually was lol.

And now a couple days ago I got the L930 because my mom was able to renew her contract with a free phone, she doesn't actually care about phones though so she gladly let me gave me the phone. (she is using my old 800 btw). Now my 930 does have a couple issues like the purple tint which I hope they fix soon. I love the design though, and the build quality is top notch as usual :).

about two years ago i went to a vodafone store to buy a phone. with my budget i ask for a samsung galaxy ace, a sony xperia J and a lumia 610 to see. after see and touch i just trow away the samsung, did not liked it... and between the sony and the lumia i chose the lumia just because of nokia... and my wife still got it!! and happy.

From my childhood days I used Java j2me platform for phones.....when I thought I had enough of it and want to upgrade to a smartphone this new year back in January 2014...i was pretty curious about windows phone and never used android before.. So as everyone was using android I decided to try something else and that's when I came up with the idea of WP did a research on it, and saw the limatations of this OS but also fell in love with its simplicity....and till now I am a proud WP fan...and all my friends respect me for owning a Windows device....and I also recently upgraded my PC to Windows 8.1 pro to keep everything in sync. Feel sorry for those who use Android and are tired of lag...

I have been using windows since windows xp came out. also had an xbox before starting pc gaming so i am basically a microsoft ******, lol. when my feature phone became boring and i decided to go smart, back in 2008 i got a win mo 6.1 device, the samsung omnia i900. it had a great build and a beautiful design at the time. since then i have been with microsoft on mobile too. :)

Rei, I am pretty much as you bro. I am a Windows and Linux fan since the days of Windows 95 and Linux RedHat (someone remembers RedHat?, hehe), and today I am on Windows 8 and Linux Ubuntu. In the smartphone depratment I am a long Windows Mobile/Phone user too. No, I am not a ****** cuz after Windows Mobile 6.5 died, I was an Android user for several months (6 months to be precise). I wanted to try the platform just because it has the most specification that WM6.5 had and those was mainly about the tweaking and customization. I had the Samsung Galaxy device. But having Omnia i900 device along with the Galaxy device, I notice that the love for Windows Mobile hasn't gone, so when HTC Radar came along I sold my Galaxy device and bought the HTC Radar. Yes, Windows Phone 7 was way different than Windows Mobile 6.5, but i decided to give it a shot. In the mean time I already knew how to cook a custom ROM for Windows Mobile 6.5.3, so I cooked one for my beloved Omnia i900 and gave her a new life. A new life that still works till today along with my new device, the beautiful Samsung ATIV S i8750 which is my primary device and the Omnia i900 I use it as a secondary device for my other number. In matter of fact, here are them both on a picture next to each other :) history meets present :)

Paul Thurrott talking about it on Windows Weekly on Twit, he was so exited about it. It was pretty limited in the beginning and I couldn?t buy apps, but sooooo pretty...

Well my first touchscreen of the Omnia i900 went nuts too after 3 years of using it, but i did find a shop in UK and ordered it and since i am from Macedonia, only proves how much i was and still am in love with the Omnia i900. As you can see from the pictures it's a Vodafone touchscreen. I was offered from a collector around 100 euros for the Omnia i900 few months ago, but i didn't sell it, cuz i put my soul in that phone. My own cooked custom Ultra WM 6.5.3 ROM that everything in it works, the last version of the SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.5 and much more. The Omnia works as a new phone. Oh, the battery is still the same and still holds up from 3-4 days in average usage. :)
However, I think Windows Phone OS as a platform have a bright future, and it's only way now is UP! :)

when I bought a w8 laptop and loved it I looked it up.

My android phone was falling apart (software wise not hardware - lag and apps force closing left right and centre after only 18 months! I could barely use the dialler or keyboard without huge laggy frustration...).

So after finding I liked Windows 8 I found out there was a phone OS that looked similar so I bought a 620 for my Mum and played with it and liked it, so I bought a 520 for me (was planning to get a 930 but was a bit disappointed with what it was) so I got a 635 at the moment. Played with a 930 in a shop yesterday and am regretting not buying it a little bit, but I'll wait until the next flagship comes out in the winter or next year and get that.

Despite the Windows Phone Ads appearing in the UK in 2012. I didn't really find out about the platform until October 2013 when I was looking on the internet for a new phone. I was surprised when I found out there was a windows mobile released over a decade ago and there were windows phone 7 phones available since 2010! I really thought the only phones were androids and iPhones. Look at me now on a forum for windows phone.

Basically, post here when you found out about this windows platform and how you found out about it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who didn't know there were windows phones in 2010.

I basically had a similar situation to you mate. In March 2013 I was ready to get a new phone -- I had the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, which had lasted me 4 years and was still going strong. However, the stylus kept on falling out of the phone, so it started to get frustrating, hence the change.

Due to me being on O2, I decided to look for another Nokia phone on their website. Surprisingly, that is when I first found out about WP8 -- up until then I had no clue that it existed, let alone WP7. Funnily enough, this is a prime example of Microsoft's poor advertisement campaigns.

Nevertheless, I decided to give it a go, because of Nokia and the fact the OS looked different. At the time, the whole of my household were on Android phones -- mainly Samsung and HTC, with another 5+ Blackberry (Wackberry) phones in the cupboard collecting dust. This was due to Blackberry phones being broken, because of being manufactured from cheap materials -- although they cost as much as my Nokia.

Anyways, I played around with my L920 for hours and was fascinated with the Tile concept, plus the sheer beauty of the photo hub, amongst other things. Therefore, I persuaded my Mrs and kids into getting WP8 because it seemed a winning combination -- Nokia for hardware and Microsoft for software. Even if the kids had said no, they would have got them regardless, as we were paying for them. So we ended up with five Nokia phones in our house.

Having said that, two of my kids went back to Android (Sony) because at the time WP8 was inadequate for their needs. And the other changed their L820 for L720 because it was lighter and better looking. At present, we have L920, L820 and L720, which we are happy with because the phones and OS are beautiful compared to Android.

I found out about Windows Phone at the end of 2012 and somewhere in 2013 one of my friend's bought a Lumia 820 and I realized how high quality Windows Phone we're and how smooth.

Bought a Windows Phone, Lumia 520, on January 2014 and kept it for eight months. Loved WP and started learning Visual C# to fill the app gao somewhat.

Sadly I didn't complete C# tutorials and moved on to Android, not sure whether to continue learning C# or start learning Java instead.

I was a Nokia user prior to BlackBerry. I had an upgrade available and was waiting for BlackBerry 10, which was still "coming soon". Then I saw the Nokia Lumia 900 at CES and picked it up the first day it was available. I liked it and eventually got a 920. So it's pretty much RIM/BlackBerry's fault for being slow to release something new that brought me here.
