When will we see a Surface 3?

What I've learned about how Microsoft is handling the Surface line, things aren't an issue until the next gen addresses them. All of a sudden, they point out all of the deficiencies in the previous gen's design that are addressed in the new gen.

Marketing 101. You can't sell a new product if there's nothing wrong with the old product.

I think you can. Many companies present a "previous gen=good, new gen=better" but Microsoft sends a "previous gen=not so good, new gen=great" message.

Nonsense, Beijendorf; you got a bad RT that you had to return. Mine has always run flawlessly, first with 8.0 and now 8.1. We also have the Pro, and the main advantage to the RT is the 2-3 days of battery life using it mostly to browse, stream videos, and play music.

The advantage to producing multiple devices is to sell to consumers in different segments/ at different price points. A major difference in the Pro 3 release is that it is available with/at a broader range of specs and prices, although not as low as the current RT/2 levels. I did not read or imagine as much into the Surface Pro 3 release statements as you did. I have 2 college students happy with all-day RTs and was surely happy getting each expandable 64GB unit, loaded with MS Office, for $400 at an MS-store-opening sale last summer.

BTW, all Surfaces have been tablets; Microsoft has produced only tablets.

If Samsung can do it so can Microsoft. I say we get the new sp3 by November or a S3.
If they threw a digitizer on the S it would kill.

RT's limitations don't bother me as much as I thought it would. Maybe that's because it's not my only device and I keep my expectations more relative to other tablets rather than laptops. I would like the option to have a "developer mode" where I can run any unsigned desktop program, similar to what the Chromebooks have.

I'd like to see a Surface 3, something that says relatively the same size, but with a better processor and a pen. If they were to ditch ARM and RT, which I doubt they will personally, something affordable but well built with an Atom processor may be nice.
