Who Still Plans on Buying the Icon?

But would you agree that for whatever reason that Nokia decided to focus their manufacturing efforts on the 1520 instead of the Icon for the holiday season have seriously affected the WP install base in North America for the final quarter of 2013?
No, I don't agree with that at all. The 929 not coming out isn't because Nokia couldn't make them, it's on Verizon who is testing them/planning the release. I don't know the exact reason for the delay, but Verizon plans these things out according to their own marketing roadmaps and ideas. They don't care about what's best for Nokia or Windows Phone, they do what they think is right for them.

Like I said, Nokia wanted this device out earlier. It's why we saw all the leaks late last year--the device was in testing, more people had it, marketing was ramping up (e.g. the renders), so more leaks happened. It's not because Nokia didn't want it, but this is a Verizon release.

Carriers, officially and unofficially, do not leak phones, if ever.

Well.....sort of. It was Verizon Wireless itself that "leaked" a test page for the Icon, and I don't think you would call that a "rogue employee"........especially since it happened twice.

Both could have been accidents (although that should only happen once). But it still "leaked" right from them. Making it look like they were nearly ready to roll......and then nothing.

As someone who works for a major website, its extremely difficult to keep leaks from happening. Most websites you see actually have a lot more on their public servers than the public can see, and they use various control methods to keep those things invisible. One mistake by a developer or by those running the control software and a 'leak' happens. unfortunately you cannot keep everything off the public servers or integration testing simply cannot be done and you risk a botched rollout.

Yes, that was a mistake. Yes it happened twice. I'm sure the developers have been shot. My guess is it happens all the time, but since most phones are not highly anticipated nobody notices.

Noooooo, they shot the developers!! :/

This here is true. There will not be a shipping 805 design until at least June. It is far more likely that we see something end of Summer, around August or so. Even then it would not surprise me if the customers were limited until production ramps up towards fall. The 805 is going to hit mass market about a year after the 800.
I'm just going to point out that I called this. For future reference. The Galaxy S5 was just announced. It has the 801 in it, a very minor update to the 800. The reason stated was that the 805 will not be available in quantity until fall. Our Icon's are indeed top of the line for the time being, at least until fall, if not late fall.

It's also one of the first devices to use a Snapdragon 801 from Qualcomm. This "one louder" version of the Snapdragon 800 is architecturally identical, but it comes with faster CPU, GPU, and memory bus speeds, a bone Qualcomm has thrown to OEMs while it finishes up work on the true Snapdragon 800 successor, the 805.

I'll probably hold off initially. A 1/2 in increase in screen size is not enough to sway me, but the 20 megapixel camera may. I upgraded to a 928 from a Note II; so I know what it is like to have to carry around a big phone. I say, upgraded from a Note II because, I realized that although the Note II is a nice phone, it really didn't fit with how I use my phone, which is more as a PDA/phone/camera and less as an e-reader/movie watching/game playing.

Ok I lied... I gots mee won ov dem their shiny gnu Nokia Icons. She sher is purity... and reelee smart two... :)
