Why am I getting a message tone for certain contacts?

Message tone only for certain contacts

Hello fellow Windows Phone users,

I was wondering if there is a way to have message tones for certain contacts only, while having message tones silent for everyone else. For example, I would hear a tone if John texts me but not if Jason texts me. The only way I could think of is to record silence and set it as the message tone, and then custom assign John.

Is there any other way? Thank you!

I think you can do what you want to do by going into contacts and then slect edit the contact, there you can find ringtone, I haven't try that myself so I'm not sure.
