Why am I not able to update my Nokia Lumia 520?

I cannot seem to update my Nokia Lumia 520

I cannot seem to update my Nokia lumina 520 because when I click updates it takes me to a page that requires my name and birthdate to continue. I can put in my name but the drop down menus for the birthdate can only be selected but not opened. No drop down menu appears so that I can put it in. I tried turning it on/off to see if that was the problem. I also tried to turn it horizontally to see if that would work, both failed. Suggestions are appreciated.

It sounds like you need to have your parent set up My Family or you need to add additional information if you are not a minor. https://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/how-to/wp8/apps/my-family-faq

The information should be able to be added to the Microsoft account using a desktop PC browser to sign in to the account.
