Why can't FaceBook Messenger run in background?

Hello! I've just recently noticed that FaceBook's Messenger app no longer being able to run in the background. Is this a bug? Please help! /Tobias Forsberg using a Nokia Lumia 920

And i just did a hard reset + checked updates. No luck.

the Messenger app no longer has the option to be allowed in the background or not.

I haven't noticed any difference in functionality however.
I heard somewhere it was now tied to the Facebook app, but I don't know.

Thanks for the answers guys, i've already checked the batterysaving options, but everything is just blank on Messenger. I have no options.
When i open my Messenger app and go to settings, i've checked everything to tell me when someone sends me a txt. But nothing happends when someone sends me something while in the background.

Just try to reinstall the app it worked for my friend

I did a hard reset. I've also tried reinstalling the app, no luck thou :unhappy:

just install Facebook and the messenger will run in the background. as long as you have Facebook installed the messenger will run as long as you have Facebook running in background.
