Why can't my car hear me respond verbally to text when connected to My Sync in my car?

My Lumia 950XL connects to the bluetooth in my 2012 Ford Focus equipped with Microsoft Sync. I can make and respond to phone calls with no issues. I am alerted to text messages when a new text comes in but I can't respond because Sync can't hear me respond to "Do you want me to read it or ignore it?" My old HTC One with Windows 8.1 worked beautifully.
