Why can't my laptop (Win 8.1) my Lumia 635 (Win 8.1) on my home network.?

My laptop (Win 8.1) can't see my Lumia 635 (Win 8.1) on my home network.

Phone: Lumia 635 w/ Windows 8.1
Laptop: Lenovo g505 w/ Windows 8.1

Both the phone and the laptop are connected to my home network and have internet access.

I am trying to use a WiFi file sharing app on my phone, but the Lumia phone doesn't even show up as a device on my network. I've tried to turn on every possible sharing feature on both the phone and the laptop without any success.

Any hints, thoughts or suggestions?

If you want to transfer files between pc and phone. Use easy transfer.
