why cant my screen light up?

I left my phone charging and when i woke up in the morning the screen does not light up. it was working well before though the screen was a bit over sensitive to touch, jumping functions and stuff.

Try holding the power and volume buttons for 15 seconds or so (I.e. Try a soft reset). Also, does the recharge led light up when you plug it in?
