Why doesn't the Surface RT work with USB MBB or does it?

What I'm asking is, my company issues 4G mobile broad band USB devices but none of them work with the Surface RT. They do work on laptops running 8.1 fortunately but not on RT. If the RT is for business, why did MS not build in the capacity to use these USB MBB devices? I read there are 47 different USB dongles and 0 work with the Surface RT or the Surface 2. This is an eye opener for me.

Do these rely on clients that control them (as in broadband stick X is controlled via program X)?

That's really how a lot of broadband sticks/dongles work here.

You may as well move the SIM to a Wi-Fi dongle, if you can.

No. They are just basic 4G air cards. Verizon.
