Why is everything smaller? (font, icons etc)

On my Lumia 1320, a lot of the UI is small. The lockscreen has smaller date/time. IE has smaller navbar. The typing pad is smaller.

Is this 8.1 being optimized for my large screen, or across the board for all devices?

I noticed this too on my 1520. I haven't really looked to see if there is a way to change it, but I'm assuming there probably is. Thankfully, my eyes are good enough that it doesn't bother me, but I could see where it would be an issue for some people.

Yes, the smaller fonts are here because lots of People complained about too big font sizes on their phablets.
However, also the smaller phones got it (What I don't understand :S).

i think that now my 1520 look too good than it was on wp8. I like the new full support for FullHD resolution.
