Since your phone has a solid-state "hard drive", you can be assured that your hardware would not be damaged by the sudden shut down. If you were running an app when the phone "died", however, there is a very small chance that the app might encounter some errors (I encountered a few already in a similar scenario), but it wouldn't do much harm, too - at the most all you need to do is reinstall the app.
Also, you may not worry too much about damaging your battery as long as you DON'T turn it on again WITHOUT charging it FIRST or plugging your phone into a charger to prevent completely draining your battery - fully draining lithium-based batteries can damage them so I'd be careful about that.
