Why is my Lumia 640 breaking my headphones?

Windows Central Question

I have now gone through 3 sets of headphones with the same pattern. Sound goes in one ear then the other follows. I have tried them using other devices and they have definitely stopped working.
My third pair of earphones were bought brand new last night and the first ear went within 10 minutes of listening. Also, the phone switched off my music by itself a few times today too.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and how did they fix it?

Are you buying very cheap headphones? Because they usually break very quickly and it's nothing to do with they phone

I have used skull candys and gummi. The first pair worked for a few days before breaking (only bought them in the summer), the second and third broke within half an hour of using them even though they were both brand new. I know cheaper headphone don't last too long but surely the same thing wouldn't be happening in the same pattern!

If you are buying from the same seller, you probably just got bad batch of the product.
There is still possibility of your Lumia suppling to much power to headphone jack, but this is very unlikely.

I may have missed it, but have you tried the headphones in any other electronics afterward?
The jack on the 640 is different for some reason. I have a pair of Turtle Beach headphones that work on all my PC's and worked just fine in my old Lumia 520. They will NOT work in the 640 :( (no sound) I'm not an audio specialist, but apparently there are different types of jacks and the 640 has a sensitive one
