Why is my T-Mobile Lumia 640 restarting randomly?

T-Mobile Lumia 640 is restarting randomly

I have had this phone for about two weeks now. On at least five occasions, the phone has gone into a shut down and restart for no apparent reason. I downloaded and installed the Stop Restart App, but is reports that my phone is OK. I also tried the phone update, and was told that my phone is up to date.

OS version is 8.10.15148.160
Firmware revision number is 02177.00000.15203.26115

Do you have a SD card installed? Is so, try removing it. I have run in to that before (bad SD card, causing reboots).

If not, the only thing I can think of would be replacing the handset. Hopefully, someone else has an idea.

Yes I did. It says my phone is ok. Also tried Phone Update. Said my phone is up to date.

Same here on my brand new 640. (Stop Restart app says phone is ok...) After the latest update the thing just hung on the microsoft logo. Returned the *****, very dissapointed after years with good experiences with my nokia 620

I know it's frustrating but despite all the QA and quality processes, defective units will happen. I'd say give it another shot with a second one.

No problems here on my Lumia 640 from T-Mobile.
Very impressed for the 99 dollar device I got from Walmart.
I have yet to see any problems. Fast and fluid with no defects.
Might've gotten a defective model. Might advice factory resetting it and see if that helps. Could be a faulty SD card slot .
