Why is my T480s trackpad uneven with the casing?

I just bought a T480S and for some reason the left side of the trackpad is even with the top casing but the right side ain't. I've also had MacBook Pro version with the same issue. Is this normal or a manufacturing defect? Seems a lot of laptops have this defect.
