Why is my Windows 10 not displaying my Desktop?

Everytime I boot up my Desktop and sign in, my desktop doesn't show. Only my mouse, the rest is black.

how long do you wait before it shows? Or it doesn't show at all?

This happened to me due to a virus. Unfortunately I had to format my hard drive and reinstall Windows to fix it. I hope it's not so severe for you.
