Why isn't my Lumia 950 email connecting with contacts?

Lumia 950 email not connecting with contacts

Since the last update to the Outlook email program whenever I try to send an email I have to type out the entire email address. Previously it would automatically pull the address from my contacts as I started to type it. How do I get Outlook to connect to my contacts list again?

My Dad has a similar problem with his L950. It recognizes some contacts as you type, but many others are not recognized, even though they are in Contacts/People. It keeps saying that there's no match in the Directory, even though it's in contacts. What is this "Directory"?

I chatted with MS support this afternoon and they are having me use the Windows Device Recovery Tool, but my Dad's out of town, so I'm going to have to wait to try it. We tried a hard reset before and it helped a little.

Is there another Mail app on WP10 that I can have him try?

My Dad has over 2,000 contacts, so maybe it's just too many for Outlook on WP10?
