why my lumia 540 shows it's charging but does not charges, very often this happens.

i tried different chargers , even chose a high output charger of 2.1 A output but result is same it chrges very slow and many a time it does not gets charged. No matter what ever charger I use it shows . slow charging use the cable came along with the phone.... blah blah blahh... very annoying .... pissed off... It showing the charging sign but status off the battery remains same , even if I leave the phone on charge for 4 hours or so.

Sounds like the battery has cycled through it's life too early.

Perhaps there is debris in the USB port.
Maybe you can try cleaning with air or some other method.
