Why photo quality is so bad when i send it through skype/messenger?

It goes from ~1.5 Mb to ~70Kb and is awful quality when opened on PC. Is there a way to send good quality photos through my Nokia Lumia 735?

To be honest I have the same issue but when posting images to Twitter. I don't know the answer, but I'd be interested if there's a setting I've missed!
