Why won't my lockscreen or background color stay as I set it?

My Lumia 520 is 6 months old. Today I lost my lock screen photo and the background color I had selected. I have repeatedly gone to settings and selected the photo for the lockscreen, but the lockscreen continues to be black. I've made no changes to the phone other than today while traveling unchecked the Wi-Fi setting.

Have you tried restarting your phone first before re-attempting to set the lock screen image?
