Why won't my Mail and Calendar apps open?

Why wont my Mail and Calendar apps open?

When I tap on either app, nothing happens. I have to access my gmail account through the browser.

I have the same issue with Calendar and Mail and People app. Also when I search for these apps their tiles have no background.
