Wifi , data connection issuein lumia 520

i started to use a lumia 520 of late. I 'm unable to send whatsapp messages from my phone , even though the wifi is on. it expects data connection to be on too (ie 2g/3g) . Am i missing something ?

is your question related whatsapp ?
you can turn of mobile data after switching on Wi-Fi , it will not turn off automatically after turning on Wi-Fi , to manually turn of mobile data , go to phone settings -mobile network and turn of the data connection.
