Hi, I got a bit bored today so I decided to build a small home entertainment system out of scrap parts I have.
I had a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop with a bust screen and no battery. I found a power supply for it and tested it, it booted into Windows OK and I was able to use the HDMI connection to cast on to a TV.
I also had a Vista Quantum Plus CCTV DVR with a built in DVD RW.
So today I stripped all the guts out of the vista dvr, dismantled the dell laptop and retrieved the motherboard out of it, I modified the DVR case to cater for the new motherboard, got it all fitted and was ready to power up. The laptop motherboard is powering up, the CPU fan is running and the hard drive is spinning up, but I'm only getting a blank screen on the TV, USB keyboard is unresponsive, scroll lock LED is locked on, and windows doesn't appear to be booting. Iv checked the Ram and all other connections, I can't find anything obvious.
Does anyone know if the motherboard may not boot with only a HDMI connection and USB keyboard? Obviously the laptop screen, dvd rom and keyboard are the only things removed.
