How does the 950 compare? People seem to be gloating about the camera, some saying its better than the 1020?
It is complicated. In certain situations, the 950 [XL] camera is better. In terms of launch time, it takes about a second from pocket to ready to shoot. Time between shots is lightning fast. Low light photography is really amazing with the 950. In terms of storage, the microSD slot on the 950 is great. If you have time to compose a shot in decent light, or you have a camera grip and a tripod and you are taking a shot with a long exposure, the 1020 wins hands down.
There's still a huge, huge gap between a professional camera and the 1020 or 950. A professional camera gives you multiple f-stops, the ability to shoot at high ISO, which allows you to shoot in low light with a reasonably fast shutter, and the ability to elegantly attach all sorts of lenses and filters. Anyone who is a a wedding/portrait photographer or sports/journalism photog is going to use professional equipment. People who want a mainstream smartphone with an OK point-and-shoot quality camera have several options.
What I want from a smartphone camera is a great smartphone first and foremost, and a camera that is super easy to use, and does the thinking for me, and is ALWAYS with me, so I don't have to think about getting ready to go take pictures. I feel as though the 950XL pushes forward on all of those fronts.
