Will WP 8.1 contain Nokia Black Update?

Cause the 8.1 developer preview is supposedly a few weeks away and T-Mobile hasn't release Black Update for Lumia 521 yet. If they don't release it by then and I install the 8.1 developer Preview will I still be able to get the Black Update? Ahhhhh these first world problems.:unhappysweat::crying:

I'm not sure anyone can answer that question aside from T-Mobile and Nokia.

I'm assuming they're going to try to get all devices updated to Black prior to WP8.1. Other than that I have no idea.

Based on what I was told by a T-Mobile customer care representative, the delay in updating the 521 is fixing the errors with Wifi calling & why a text message won't work or the inability to use group texting while using WiFi calling. When they will release it, they said that they're still testing. Hope this help & hopefully we'll get the black update before 8.1 comes out.

The firmware update is independent of the developer preview

Dev Preview contains only OS update, no OEM firmware changes. As for whether or not you can get Black update after 8.1 Preview, it is unknown. It is very likely that the 8.1 preview can't be rolled back without wipe and flash a firmware. GDR3 Dev preview phones can and do receive Black updates. But that's very small changes in OS compared to 8.1.

Besides, some of what Nokia done in Black should be already in 8.1 as part of OS. The rest probably won't work with new OS anyway.

Well they will before the official WP8.1 release OTA but I don't want to wait for that. Look how long they're taking with Nokia Black.

Nokia Black is just Nokia's own set of specialised firmware. For example when the GDR3 preview came out, you still had Nokia Amber (as it is separate from the rest of the OS) yet the OS was GDR3. I think this will still apply when you get the WP8.1 dev preview - the Nokia firmware updates are only really important to Nokia's software offerings, not the OS however I imagine WP8.1 will include patches from GDR3 if you haven't already updated
