I installed Win 10. Now when I try to insert a photo in my email AOL shuts down!!! Same thing happens if I try to paste a screen shot in the email, Aol shuts down. What's wrong?

Hi Fred, are you using an AOL desktop application or are you using the browser? I'm sorry, I am not familiar with AOL. If you are using the Edge browser, you can try Internet Explorer.

Maybe someone with more familiarity with AOL will have some more insight.

Fred, I think I just found a fix. Go to your Control Panel and click 'Troubleshooting'. Click the first option 'Programs'. It will lead you to a screen where it shows possible programs that are not compatible with Win 10 and you will see AOL 9 listed. Highlight it and follow instructions. It let me insert faces whereas before it cut AOL off.

Downloaded Windows 10 and now my AOL Destop 9.7 has been shutting off all day. I write an AOL and lose it within a few minutes while AOL shuts down and then restarts itself. You can't insert, copy or paste anything into emails. What is going on? Help!

Hi, I'm new here.
Having some issues with AOL Desktop 9.7 level 4343.4043 and 4343.4049 when running Win 10 Pro. The issues I've seen are only when writing mail. If you use the spell checker, and then press replace AOL is immediately dropped. Also when in mail the use of the "tab" key drops AOL. I'm sure there are other paths to get dropped.

I saw and tried Tom Frasier's comment above. Win 10 "compatibility" didn't seem to fix things for me. I sent off, via a menu selection, info to MS.

Tried mail under Google mail, and the same actions worked fine so it seems to be specific to AOL Desktop. I also did the internet via MS EDGE, then went to aol via aol.com. One gets a different AOL interface (not desktop) where spell checking is done differently and it worked fine.

While I'm not a great fan of AOL I've stayed on it since I like to save emails on my own Hard driver.

I guess I leaped too fast. My AOL mail worked for 2 emails. Now its back to the same problem. After typing about one paragraph, or dropping an image in the mail, the program dies instantly... and I mean instantly. The web mail seems to work OK, but it lacks features. Looks like I'll go sadly back to Outlook.

Hello everyone,

All day I been having issues with my AOL emails. Every time I used spell check or copy and paste it would close my aol and restart it. I have been so frustrated today. The last days since my Windows 10 upgrade everything has worked fine and today my aol had issues and microsoft word and excel. After coming across this site I realized I am not alone. After spending the last few hours trying to google help on how to fix the issue, I found this on AOL help with steps on how to fix the issue and it worked!!! help.aol.com/articles/why-is-my-mail-crashing-in-the-aol-desktop-software-after-upgrading-to-windows-10

I had to do it twice. On my computer I have Aol Desktop 9.7 and 9.7a. The first attempt I just followed instructions and did the 9.7 and it didn't work so I went back following the instructions again and did it with the 9.7a and it worked. So if you have both of those like I do, you might have to try both to get it to work. Best of luck to everyone.

Jennifer

It's 6 PM EST in the USA - Just downloaded AOL Desktop 9.8 (after getting a message from AOL as this level is needed for Window 10).

The AOL 9.8 level fixed my issues with certain actions (keys) dropping AOL when composing a reply.

So I say - Thanks to the AOL team.

Now it's up to MS to fix why EDGE cannot connect to the Internet! [A real DUH since many things under 10 don't work if EDGE fails.] :eck:

Firefox works, Chrome works, even IE 11 (found in a Windows-Back folder) works. But EDGE cannot connect!! This is happening on Window 10 Home system while my Window 10 Pro still functions (for now).

Hi! Having the same exact problem with AOL desktop, and Windows 10. Just tried it again, and AOL disappears, and the re-start does its thing. I tried using photos as attachments on AOL mail, and that seems to work, but that's not the way it's supposed to work, etc. Very frustrated with Windows 10 so far, and have only been on one week. Just got used to Windows 8.1, and now still might go back to that. I still have some time to make up my mind while 8.1 recovery is still valid on my computer.........Cyber luck be with us!

I also updated my AOL Desktop version to 9.8 as I now upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 but now on my AOL browser, on certain web sites, the print won't stretch across the entire screen (stays squished on the left side only). I have reset my Windows 10 default browser to be IE rather than Edge and I don't have the issue when using Foxfire or IE, only when using my AOL Desktop and its browser. So far everything else is working on AOL fine for me. Any suggestions on what to do??? Thanks!

Tommy Boy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for fixing this. I would type a damn long email, forget not to use the "right-click" for anything, and the program would shut down and I'd lose everything. My head would literally explode. Thank you for fixing this issue.
