Looking at this makes me wish that Windows took the Apple approach to phones. Since they are officially making phones now and since they said that they don't care about mobile marketshare, they could make 4 phones:

-Budget phone and phablet version
-Flagship and phablet version

This would make testing more streamlined, perfectly optimize software to hardware, and more clarity as to what should be phased out. *shrugs*

How does the testing working though? Does Microsoft have to test functionality for each phone released or do they do like Android an leave new release compatibility to the OEMs?

Can't believe Lumia 820 isn't there. It's perfectly fine phone. Btw. What makes it special is its form factor. Quite ideal. Not too small neither a big one. I almost bought Lumia 950 but when I saw how HUGE 950 is I was simply barred from buying it. So now I'm let in the dark since there is no suitable wp phone on the market.

A bit of OT: Am I the only one who want's high end phone which is not simply huge?? I wan't wireless charging 2GB memory, decent CPU, AMOLED display.... simply 950 in the 820 from factor.

Despire the jump from a 4.5" to 5.2" display, the Lumia 950 isn't actually that much bigger than the Lumia 920, because the screen covers and replaces the capacitive buttons. It's only a little bit taller while still being the same width. :)

If you try holding a 950 you might be surprised how comfortable it actually is.

928 here with OS ver 8.10.142403.306, Firmware 3051.500009.1446.0093. on Verizon. Neither of these match the "minimum" versions to receive the update. I presume there would be an update to the current OS/Firmware prior to the Win10 upgrade??

<Not going to ask about Verizon's expected actions -- know better.>

Batch 2

The Batch 2 includes smartphones like Lumia 735, Lumia 730, Lumia 638, Lumia 636, Lumia 635, Lumia 540, Lumia 535, Lumia 532 and its variants, Lumia 435 and its variants, and Lumia 430.

Batch 3

The Batch 3 includes handsets such as Lumia ICON, Lumia 1320, Lumia 1020, Lumia 928, Lumia 926, Lumia 920, Lumia 822, Lumia 720, Lumia 630, Lumia 625, Lumia 620, Lumia 526, Lumia 525 and Lumia 520.
Ineligible Devices

There is a slew of Windows Phone smartphones from various brands that are unlikely to receive Windows 10 Mobile upgrade. It includes LG Lancet, Windows Phone 8S HTC, Windows Phone 8X HTC, Windows Phone 8XT HTC, Samsung ATIV S variants, Dell Venue Pro, Lumia 530, Lumia 610, Lumia 800, Lumia 810, Lumia 820, Lumia 900 and Samsung Omnia 7.

Also saw this list on WinBeta. Personally I think this list makes much more sense. "Limited" was a rather sketchy term on the other version I have seen.

Yo.

I feel this does not warrant its own thread. I moved this to the 535 subforum, but has decided to merge it into with the main thread. Fits in better here IMO.

Seems like the batches are coming ordered by specs (high to low end devices) but I'm concerned about carriers.
I bet ATT will take forever to release the update to devices in the list, they barely released denim so I shall die waiting for W10 with my 1520...

Welcome to buying a Samsung phone. NO updates EVER! That's why I switched my two ativ's to two 1020s. I know it may take a while for at&t to release but I do know it's coming.
I think the stupid carrier controlled OTA update method MSFT kept since the windows mobile 5/6 days take more credit of this mess.

In some place of the world the ATIV S is officially well taken cared of all the way up to 8.1 update 1.

Nope. ITs Samsung, they don't even update their android phones past one update. So using that rationale, its all on Samsung.

Hmm,why then my former Ativ S recieved 8.1.1 before any Lumia recieved it?

I can confirm ATIV S phones have been updated a couple times beyond 8.0.
Also that some got Update 1, including the ATIV SE.

However the record is more soft hit and miss. ATIV SE is done, people haven't been to happy with the ATIV S Neo's updates etc.

On the Galaxy side, things are better but not perfect by a long shot. The 2012 Galaxy S III is saddled with either 4.3 Jelly Bean or 4.4 KitKat depending. (of course, they'll have an unofficial CM13 build in the future)
Don't even think about the low-end models from then.
(Things look better for the models after that though)
