Windows 10 Pro in S mode - Is it really more secure?

Windows 10 in S mode is advertised as being more secure, is that the case because you can only download applications from the Microsoft store? Or is there other added security as well that is not so obvious?

I'm debating on switching to windows 10 pro from S mode but may stay if there really is a strong security benefit.

The benefit is that an uninformed user won't be able to download DriverPCFixNow.exe and run it, that and disallowing unapproved applications likely puts the kibosh on malware too. That's about it I believe, if you're a reasonably competent user, you should be fine on Pro.

Well it's just that UWP is sandboxed, and exe's can't run basically. I suspect that would also minimize the ability for trojans to spread, but I don't know (seeing as they inject into executables).

Microsoft can enforce technical rules, such as prohibiting the use of some APIs in certain cases and mandating and enforcing performance requirements. The sandboxing makes it so applications can't access resources they don’t need, preventing rogue apps from directly addressing hardware, installing device drivers, or modifying core operating system elements.
