Re: Windows 10 Update Failed Error C1900101

I tried this, it didn't work. There are no other patches/fixes that need to be installed from Windows Update. I also disabled my antivirus and cleaned out old files, temp directories, and any suspect programs that may cause problems with compatibility.

The install from the download tool gets to "Copying Files 85%" (25% of the total install) then the laptop just reboots and Windows restores back to Windows 7. The error is one from my post mentioned above. The odd thing is that if attempt the install from Windows Update, it also fails, but leaving error message 80240020. The 80240020 error might be MS's default error when prompting to install W10 before the system says it's actually "ready." I'll keep trying and find out what works....

Try doing a disk check upon booting then run defrag. It worked for me .

Re: Windows 10 Update Failed Error C1900101

I have exact same issue.. multiple failures with C1900101 - 0x20004, resulted eventually in a corrupted recovery so it wouldn't even restore 8.1 properly. Had to do clean install of 8 (had media), do all the 154 updates, then upgrade to 8.1, then all it's 50 odd updates, and finally I am getting exactly the same issue again, C1900101 - 0x20004! On various forums people have said it's to do with the recovery partition but I have never had one in any of the OS's I have had. I've tried disconnecting my optical drive, uninstalling the card reader, installing from flash drive, installing from CD, installing with/without updates... still nothing. Getting perilously close to giving up.

Re: Windows 10 Update Failed Error C1900101

My Surface3 upgrade with no problems to W10.
My ASUS laptop (Windows 7), gives the C1900101 - 0x20004 error.

Tried it 2 times, that's enough for me, don't really want to wast to much time on it.

What I could find on the internet, is that it has to do with either some drivers, or attached hardware.
But' I'm not going to try al these workarounds, I will leave my laptop on W7, until windows found the solution.

And if you want, you can go through this post, and all the links it is referring to.

I had thought about reimaging my W7 machine to then upgrade to W10, but I fear the same thing might happen. I also do not have a recovery partition.

Re: Windows 10 Update Failed Error C1900101

Hey guy. (I'm French, and my english isn't very good sorry...)
I have the same laptop (hp pavilion dv6) an I had the same problem.

I found the solution :
First step : go to hp.support choice your device and upgrade your bios and restart your PC
Second step : Uninstall antivirus software and restart your computeur
Third step : Download windows 10 and after the download diseable your WLAN and LAN that's the main point no WIFI during the process

For me that solution do the work.

I also had that same kind of error and my laptop is HP Pavilion g series. I waited for 3 hours and my screen was completely black so I forced it to shut down and it returned to Windows 7 again. Good thing my files were not deleted hahaha. I think I won't try to update my laptop again

Re: Windows 10 Update Failed Error C1900101

Hi all,

I am an I.T. technician and have seen this issue with HP systems before with upgrading from windows 8 to 8.1.

I have just had the same issue with a HP DV6 with a windows 7 SP1 home premium base upgrading to windows 10..... After four failed upgrade attempts, I tried the same thing I do with 8 to 8.1 upgrades with success.

The solution:

Go into device manager and disable all "Display Adapter" drivers, disable all drivers listed under the "Sound, video and game controllers" heading, and if your computer has a fingerprint scanner, disable all "Biometric device" drivers, then start windows 10 upgrade.

Once upgrade is complete, all the drivers will be re-enabled automatically except for the Display Adapter drivers. These will have to be reinstalled.

I hope this gets everyone out of trouble or at least helps to some degree.

Same problem here, on a custom built PC. I first had a problem getting Windows 10 to download at all, which was solved when I formated my prior Windows-disk. A few months back I (at last) made the switch to SSD, and used some tool to clone the content of my system disk onto my new SSD. I've had that old system disk plugged in on F: without doing anything more to it. That must have confused the installer, but worked like a charm after a format. That is, until this error.

Been searching high and low for a solution, but nothing so far.. A real bummer.

Edit: Problem solved, although I'm now getting a third (!) error. Anyway, what fixed it for me was disconnecting a external USB soundcard before installing.

Edit 2: I seem to be stuck at the third error; 8007002 C-4001E. Beginning to understand why Microsoft gave me a year to update. Think I might be needing it..

Edit 3: Made it through all errors at last. My savior turned out to be Media Creation Tool, where I had to select "Keep only files" (not apps/programs). Ideally I wanted to keep everything, but as long as Windows 10 is installed thats fine.. And damn, it was worth it. Windows 10 is awesome. ;D

Yes bro i think this is the solution. I have a dynamic disk and I know it is problematic as I was not able to install previews of Windows 10 and Windows 8 as well back then. I think I have to format my HDD completely in order to change it to basic, right? I'll try this and update. Thanks.

The roll out has reached me! "Yippee!" I exclaimed. My joy has been very short-lived. My annoyance and frustration knows no bounds! MS really have shot themselves in the foot over this upgrade. The number of frustrated complaints out there is mounting rapidly.

I went to bed with "Working on it ..." chugging away and the hard drive very busy doing something. It is now 8.30 in the morning and nothing has changed. How naff is an upgrade process that it cannot manage this? I remember upgrading to Windows 7 with absolutely no problems.

Now I was one of those impatient folk who tried to manage the upgrade ahead of time using the Windows 10 Media Creation tool. This repeatedly failed after the first reboot. So, I thought that waiting for the roll out would be the best policy, but no...

I have seen lots of advice about making sure you uninstall your security software first, detach all your USB devices, update all your drivers, especially your video drivers and even disconnect all your additional internal hard drives! How naff is that? Millions of non- savvy computer Windows are out there who are going to have similar problems. What a shambles Microsoft is getting itself into. If they can produce a a smooth Windows 7 upgrade that works without a clean install, surely they can manage this.

I experienced this issue and attempted it 4 times and only got it up the 5th time. After reading up advices from multiple forums, this was what I did to make it work.

1) Uninstall all 3rd party software, especially any software on CD/DVD burning, Defragmenter, Optimizer & Tuning; Hard Disk utility / benchmarking and disk encryption software.

2) On my 1TB hard disk. I repartition my C drive so that it has about 200GB with 100GB available; 500GB to D drive with about 300GB available, and the remaining 300GB unformatted. In one of the forum, somebody stated the failure can be caused by the win10 installer trying to setup a hidden recovery partition which needs about 60GB of space. In another forum, somebody stated that the C drive must have enough space for it to store the old Win7 files and also to install Win10. Also make sure you do not encrypt your disk.

3) Changed my disk partitions from dynamic disk to basic disk.

4) Download the media tool for Win10, ran it to 100% and choose to 'Keep Nothing' (Of course, I have backed up all my files already).

5) Unplug all external USB and also removed my add-on WiFi adapter card, and connect my pc to the internet via a LAN port.

6) Once the win10 downloads finished at 100% and the OS is in the process of rebooting the PC, I unplug the LAN cable from the PC as soon as possible.

That is it! Succeed on the 5th time.

So I finally got Windows 10 Installed!

After maybe 15 failed attempts, with various setups,, every single time getting that C1900101-20004 error, I managed to get my hands on an old VGA cable (native motherboard graphics has no HDMI output) so I could completely uninstall and remove my Asus (Nvidea) Graphics card. I nearly had a heart attack when copying files went to 85%!

Now reinstalled Graphics with Windows 10 drivers and got the network card back in too using the Troubleshoot tool to install in Windows 7 mode. Working perfectly.

Not sure if it's worth all the hassle just yet, though it is nice to have a (native) start button back, and Cortana is worth laugh too for all of half an hour.

Hi,
I had similar problem on my Samsung laptop (error code C1900101-2000C). It was the matter of overheating CPU.
During instalation proces it turned off and than came back to win8.1 ... After 4 tries, I put a cooling pad under the laptop and 5th time was the lucky one. Pls. try and give a note if it helped ...
