Reset will flash the last version you have on the phone. So you keep 10.

WDRT (Windows Device Recovery Tool) will take you back to 8.1.

Has anyone had trouble upgrading their lumia 640 to W10? I've run the upgrade advisor a million times and get the canned "Congrats. We're working with your carrier" blah blah. It's frustrating. My windows insider doesn't work either because anytime I try to obtain preview builds, I get the "Server error". Currently using OS 8.10.1518.160, Firmware .36016, software - windows phone 8.1 update 2 Any help greatly appreciated.

Edit - I have done multiple hard resets to today in the hopes that it would fix whatever issue exists. No dice.

Any one having system apps show as pending install even though it really does work? Touch for me is doing this. See pic. Just wondering as I have rebooted my phone several times and nothing changes.

What L640 do you have? Win10m is not yet available for T-mobile L640. If you have the AT&T version I would recommend using the Win Device Recovery tool to flash back to w8.1 original version, upgrade to latest w8.1 and then using upgrade advisor to upgrade to w10m.

Go to the Storage App and move any sys app relating to Touch or Gesture installed on the SD card to the device memory. Make the device the default location for installation of Apps. Reboot and try to install G&T again.

I'm using the ATT go phone version of the Lumia 640. I will try the Win Disc Recovery Tool process today and report back

I just can not believe they would remove this app from the users, when the hardware is built in. If the App is ever added back, then I will continue on and upgrade, but for now I am locked at this version until this phone dies. (Good thing I have another 640 as a back-up!)

I'm unable to get notification sounds to work reliably. Mainly I just want to get a sound for incoming emails and messages--works for a bit, then stops. The sound notifications were working until after I did a hard reset a couple of days ago.

You are on Redstone. FM radio still exists on the Release Preview Rings and Production. That means it will be there when you upgrade your WP8.1 phone to Win10m OS.

FWIW, Maps on W10M has turn by turn with voice and draws from the HERE database for its mapping. Yes you can download the same mapping data as HERE for offline nav with Maps. Also in W10M you can save maps to SD card.

You cannot download voicepacks to get a nav voice distinct from system voice.

If I upgrade to Windows 10, am I going to lose some of my apps that are not on Windows 10?

This is going to vary for some people, but when my 640 was on 8.1, a whole bunch of Disney games that used to work on it just couldn't be downloaded anymore. I have no idea why. Then when I updated to W10m, all of a sudden, I could download those games again. Also, there was another app called Phototag that refused to download on 8.1, but downloads and works perfectly fine on W10m.

So in my case, W10m actually restored access to some apps for me. If you have apps that you can't download on 8.1, W10m might enable those for you too.

Only problem I'm having is and I can't seem to find a fix for, is that apps I've deleted are still showing up when I swipe to the right and go into the apps list/menu.
Anyway to fix this? I'm sure the apps are deleted but they still show up. if you pin them to start screen a ghost tile of sorts appears. Weird I know.

Download and try "Radio FM Phone" by LaNoSoft from the app store. It's free, and it works great.

Hey guys

Enjoying w10m for the past two weeks on my 640.It is working very well except two problems that
1. I cant able to install indian speech language on the official non-insider build .318 due to which cortana is unusable for me till now.
2. Additional keyboard suggestion of INDIAN keyboard cant be install.

Is there any solution to these problems.
And one more thing is anybody here knows when msft enabling the call recording feature for 640.

After experiencing W10M on my 640 for about a week, I've decided to go back to the 8.1 version. Although I enjoyed a few new features that W10M offered, such as gif integration and an improved outlook app, I felt it was a bit to laggy compared to the 8.1 version. I also rely on Cortana working on my Microsoft Band, but with W10M it was never able to connect. The lack of the Me tile and Twitter integration in the People app was also a disappointment with W10M. I suppose that I'll wait a month or two and hope that an update comes along to improve W10M before upgrading again.
