Windows 8 calendar on phone and desktop

I'm somewhat new to Windows Phone (Lumia 920), and I have a question regarding the calendar. I had set a calendar reminder for something on my phone, and a little while ago it popped up on the phone and computer at the same time. I haven't connected my phone to my PC in the past few days, so it kind of threw me off. The only thing I could think of is that the Windows 8 PC calendar and phone calendar automatically sync with each other over wi-fi and the Internet. Am I right?

Yep. if you sign in Windows 8 with your MS account and with your WP. they'll automatically sync with each other with WIfi or a cellular connection
