Now I'm not one to jump at Computerworld's article's, and prefer to take them with a pinch (or a lot) of salt, but their post regarding the upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 from 8 handsets has piqued my interest. From their post, it seems that Microsoft and Nokia are being extremely sketchy on what upgrade current devices will receive (e.g. "is upgradable...if or how individual devices are upgraded has not been announced"), and would rather keep all cards close to the vest, which puts software vendors and users at a disadvantage. As I said, a pinch of salt is needed, since the whole article seems a little long, and the arguments a tad weak.

What do you think though? Will this be a repeat of the 7.5 upgrade path? Does Microsoft need to be more open regarding it's plans for Windows Phone 8.1?

What debate? Over some click bait, FUD filled piece of rubbish by someone who doesn't even use the platform and is just stirring up trouble? Please, going back to enjoying my Lumia 920 and waiting to get off work to get home and open my 1020! 41 million reasons to leave work early! :)

1020! Awesome! Not meaning to stir up trouble though sorry, I just meant to start some discussion, with the last upgrade woes and all... Sorry about the misleading title...

Think about it... What do some WP8 devices have that other WP8 devices not have, and think about whether MS would abandon those that don't have. Low memory? No. This is the fastest growing segment of WP. They're not going to get left behind. Non-Nokia cameras? No. As much as Nokia has the lion's share, MS won't alienate HTC, Samsung, Huawei, or others. They need as much support as they can get, even the little bit. Blah blah blah...

When you get down to it, there isn't a segment of the WP supply that MS wants to alienate. So if one phone gets it, they all will (barring, of course, carriers blocking the update).
