Hi! I recently bought a Lumia 520, I tried to download Windows Phone App for Desktop from Microsoft but it doesn't install.
Is there an app to connect my phone to PC running Windows XP?

you can't run the Windows phone app in Windows XP,it only works on 7 and up.......but u can still browse the phone in MTP Mode-just connect your phone via usb,open my computer,and you should see your phone listed there.

Is there an app from Nokia other than Ovi? Can anyone suggest third party apps like Mobogenie?

you bought a phone in 2013 and expect its software to work in 2001 OS.. that's a huge gap buddy.. you need an upgrade.

Windows 7 is better trust us. It's not like we are telling you to go to windows 8(now that is out of people's comfort zone).

Microsoft is stopping support to win XP in April 2014. You will have to move out of your comfort zone then. Win 8 is amazing.

I have connected WP 8 devices to win XP, and managed the pics, music etc, just as you would use a flash drive. It works fine.

Just plug your data cable (the short one which came in the box) to your phone and computer.
