I would like an alternative to the edge app but chrome is not available and can not find a Firefox app. I am also searching for anti virus, spam, and similar apps. Any suggestions.

Opera Mini is a web browser I like.

You do not need anti-virus, anti-spam measures. Any apps that claim to do those things are mostly bogus.

Try coc-coc browser. I read somewhere it's chrome based. Opera mini does its job as well.

I use Monument Browser (link). It works very well for me, reasonably fast, multi tabs on home screen, etc. In my opinion, worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do not understand not needing anti virus etc. If you are on the net or get mail with attachments - what protects the unit?

Another question, how do I set one of the browsers as default in place of edge?

Sadly, you can't. You just have to use the browser.

As for your previous question, windows phone doesn't need to do anything. If the file type is recognizable, it can open. If not, you can't open it. It wouldn't be able to do anything to your phone.

So for the browser, if I want to open a link in a mail with other then edge I need to copy the link and put it in the browser? That's unfortunate.

As for the intrusion, I confess I do not understand fully. If the problem is in a work or adobe attachment then it would open. And what about a simple firewall? I had a couple of options for protection with my Iphone. And per another reply, what about ad blocker?

Sorry, but a little confused.

Yes, that's correct.

No need to worry. It's different on Windows Phone/Mobile. As for the ads, I don't know if UC Browser or Opera has ad block but Edge does not right now.

That's funny, I thought Apple did have a problem a while ago....Thanks for the info. I appreciate the help.

i have had suspicious looking mails sent to me all in a word file and i dared to open it on my lumia but nothing happened all i could read was some advertisement from ducati for the latest arrival. later downloaded the attachment uploaded it to virus total and boom shaka-laka it was a ransomware with 100% detection rate. so practically , hackers dont have the source code to penetrate widnwos phone os and windows virus and malware are not compatible with windows phone.

There is another way to reimagine this, as you to be a hacker and you want to rip off innocent public, what platform would you target-a niche windows phone or windows OS . You guessed it right , and thats why neither are hackers interested to get ahead with a virus on windows phone as well as the invulnerability of android/windows make it more attractive and easier to target.

also extensions for Edge on mobile are more or less scrapped .
