It automatically connects after about 10 minutes on the plug,

That's what they say but I've seen mine connect much, much sooner than that. When it connects, Windows recognizes the phone as a USB device (or so I assume) because I hear the "plugged in something" noise from Windows, sometimes under 60 seconds of plugging it into the charger.
 
Wireless synching is superior to USB tethering. USB tethering is for the 90s. Sorry.

I agree, EXCEPT I would like USB modem tethering. Using wifi or bluetooth to use the phone's data connection makes NO sense. Using USB charges the phone and handles data, at the same time.
 
It is a feature. It doesn't fit well with my routines either, so I do not use it (I only charge at night with all data incl. Wi-Fi Off).
