With Windows 10 coming what does this mean for Win Phones now and then?

With Windows 10 coming what does this mean for Windows phone now and how will it effect us when it comes out. Will we keep getting updates on our current phones until Windows 10 comes out or are we dead in the water?

7.5 got 7.8 after 8 was out if we can use that as an example. We also don't know if 8 will get 10 or not just yet.

Will we keep using 8/8.1 as is until 10 comes out and do you think we will keep getting support and updates until 10 is released?

Pretty sure we're slated to get another update or two in the next year before 10 IIRC.
